A documentary is out that explores the life of transgender activist Elisa Lomé, who died of cancer last year.

The documentary, A Transgender Life, will be available this summer on Netflix.

Lomé was born as Anna Anna Lomés in Mexico in 1955.

She transitioned to the male gender at age 13, but later came out as transgender.

She later became a professor and activist in Mexico City and later began working with gender-nonconforming students in the country’s education system.

She was a prolific writer and lecturer on the topic of gender and sexual orientation.

Lomas is survived by her husband, Eduardo Martínez, a former U.S. Navy officer; daughter, Joana, and step-daughter, Maria.
